Streams of Consciousness (2021)

6’ x 4’ Mixed Media

Cardboard (Tissue Boxes), Gesso, India Ink, Compressed Charcoal, Canvas.

Streams of Consciousness is a reminder to myself and the audience of the importance of prioritizing mental health. The piece depicts a hopeful self-portrait that is reflecting on the hardship that it has endured in the past and the current situations she’s finding herself in. The border is composed of tissue boxes to represent how mental health should be treated as if it were a cold. The canvas streamers symbolize streams of thought and that travel between the darkened boxes to invoke emotions of anxiety. These visually represent how the brain is constantly working and allows reflection upon when or how often the conscience gets to rest.
