Originally “The Modern Arts Society” was founded in 1939 by three women, Betty Pollak Rauh, Peggy Frank Crawford, and Rita Rentschler Cushman, and was housed in the basement of the Cincinnati Art Museum. Fast Forward to 2001. On the corner of Sixth and Walnut, construction begins for what we know and love as the Contemporary Arts Center. The architect Zaha Hadid became the first woman to design a museum building in America. The building was breaking boundaries even before completion in 2003 and continues to shake ground with the exhibitions the Center curates. Since 2016, visitors can enjoy free admission to the galleries and Creativity Center on the 6th floor. The CAC continues to grow its community through various family-friendly events and tours that wouldn’t be possible without its volunteers!
