Iridescence is a charcoal drawing of an abstracted heart-shaped necklace I wear almost every day and that was an 18th birthday gift from my mother. This necklace symbolized the end of my teenage years and what was supposed to be one of the most memorable times of a person’s life. The sparkles within the iridescence of the opal stone, like tiny cameras, watched as memories were created and captured each individual moment. I wanted to fragment, stretch, bend, melt, entangle all the sparkles I observed in order to honor all the teenage dreams and memories I experienced as the decade came to a close.
